Three years ago today, a black-and-white border collie with one bright blue eye and one warm brown eye walked into our lives and changed them for good. We didn’t know then how deeply he’d settle into our family, or how many stories he’d inspire, but we knew from the start that he was something special.
Bob arrived with a mystery...we still don't know where he came from. We posted, we scanned for a chip. We did what we could. Months went by and he was still unclaimed, still with us.
He arrived with the kind of gentle, steady spirit you can’t teach. He was housetrained, he knew a couple tricks, he was curious, loyal, and instantly attached himself to his people—Dad, Mom, and his boy Ben, who would later be the one to say, “We should write a book about Bob.” That simple comment from an 11-year-old opened the door to everything Lucky Bob has become: a story about family, love, adventure, and that one unforgettable dog who brings out the best in all of us.
Every year on his “gotcha day,” social media memories remind us of why we said yes to him. Bob has been with us through celebrations, quiet nights, road trips, vacations, long walks, and all the everyday moments that make a family feel like home. He’s our shadow, our comfort, and the heart behind a book that now reaches children and families far beyond our own.
Three years later, he’s still the same dog—curled up at our feet, ready for the next adventure, always keeping one eye on the people he loves (and whatever snack they may have in their hands).
We’re grateful every day that he found his way to us. Happy Gotcha Day, Bob. Thank you for inspiring stories worth telling and for filling our home with a little extra joy.
